We are so excited to welcome Martina Pozzi and Cecilia Ramirez to the lab! They are both undergraduate students at JHU. Martina will be working on the quality control pathways that clear defective ribosomes, and Cece will study how zebrafish regulate protein synthesis during early embryogenesis.
Lab News
Welcome to Ireh!
Welcome to our newest lab member, Ireh Kim! Ireh is an undergraduate student at Hopkins and is eager to learn more about translation, ribosomes, and cool mutants in zebrafish!
Happy Halloween
We decided that onesies make for a great casual Friday attire! Plus, working in the cold room has never been more comfortable 🙂
PURA Award
Congratulations to the amazingly talented Hanna Suh for receiving the 2021-22 Provost’s Undergraduate Research Award (PURA)! We are so incredibly proud of you! We cannot wait to see all these awesome science ideas become reality!
Welcome to Leo!
We are really excited Leo Yan is joining the lab! He did his PhD with Hani Zaher at Washington University at St. Louis, and did groundbreaking work on ribosome damage. When he is not pipetting, he loves taking photos, so stay tuned for some glam sots of the lab 🙂
Jared is going to Yale!
Our amazingly talented technician, Jared Akers, got into Yale for graduate school. We are so proud of soon-to-be Dr. Akers!
Welcome Jeffrey!
We are thrilled to welcome Jeffrey Ding to the lab! Jeffrey graduated from Johns Hopkins University, and he worked in the laboratory of Dr. Marnie Halpern before joining our lab as a technician. He will combine his extensive zebrafish knowledge with his passion for ribosomes. Stay tuned for some awesome science!
Welcome Tanushree!
Welcome to our new postdoctoral fellow, Tanushree Ghosh! Tanushree has done some beautiful work on miRNAs and lncRNAs, and is now ready to tackle the ultimate non-coding RNAs 🙂 She is joining us from the laboratory of Dr. Chandrasekhar Kanduri.
Welcome Zach
Welcome to our very first postdoctoral fellow, Zach Stolp! Zach did his PhD with J. Marie Hardwick studying the molecular mechanisms of cell death in yeast. He will be tackling some big questions around ribosomal RNA quality control. Despite the pandemic, we honored our lab tradition and enjoyed some socially distant cupcakes 🙂
Welcome Hanna!
We are thrilled Hanna Suh is joining the team this fall! Global pandemic and remote classes in the fall cannot stop scientific curiosity! She will be doing some remote experiment planning + literature review in preparation for intense pipetting in the spring 🙂
